Overview

CA166-9 antigen represents the constant region of the human immunoglobulin gamma-1 heavy chain (IGHG1), identified as the binding target of the COC166-9 monoclonal antibody developed for potential ovarian cancer diagnosis and therapy. Rather than being a tumor-specific protein, CA166-9 is a portion of a common serum immunoglobulin, and its presence reflects general immunoglobulin expression. It is thus not considered a unique or canonical tumor antigen, and its utility is limited to very specific research contexts. Its elevation in ovarian cancer relates to aberrant immunoglobulin expression in cancer cells, but its lack of specificity restricts its clinical or therapeutic value.
