Human Kallikrein-Related Peptidase 2 (hK2)

Target
hK2
Molecular classification
Serine protease, Kallikrein-related peptidases
01

Overview

Human kallikrein-related peptidase 2 (hK2/KLK2) is a secreted serine protease mainly produced by the prostate. It acts together with PSA/KLK3 to facilitate semen liquefaction through specific protein cleavage events. Its unique structural features—especially the flexible “99-loop”—contribute to its enzymatic specificity and regulation. Given its highly restricted expression profile, it serves as both a biological marker for prostate health/disease states and an attractive target for therapeutic intervention or diagnostic development.
