Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) is an enveloped, nonsegmented, negative-sense RNA virus belonging to the Pneumoviridae family. It is a common cause of upper and lower respiratory tract infections worldwide, particularly affecting young children, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals.
