Overview

The human nasal epithelial cell is a primary structural cell type lining the nasal mucosa, forming a pseudostratified, ciliated columnar epithelium essential for respiratory health. These cells provide a physical and biochemical barrier, participate in mucociliary clearance, and secrete mucins and antimicrobial factors to protect against inhaled pathogens and allergens[2][3]. Specialized subtypes include ciliated cells for mucociliary transport, goblet or secretory cells for mucus production, and basal cells for regeneration. Human nasal epithelial cells are widely studied in airway disease models but are not therapeutic targets themselves; rather, molecular targets may be identified on or within these cells (e.g., ion channels, receptors). **Note:** "Human nasal epithelial cell" is not a standard molecular target, such as a receptor or enzyme; rather, it is a descriptive histological or cell biological term for a class of cells.
