Target intelligence / Profile preview

Human ovarian cancer specific transcript 2 (HOST2)

Target
HOST2
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)
01

Overview

HOST2 is a long non-coding RNA specifically upregulated in human ovarian cancer and triple negative breast cancer tissues. Increased HOST2 expression is associated with later stage and poorer prognosis in TNBC. Mechanistically, HOST2 acts as a competitive endogenous RNA by sponging tumor suppressor microRNAs such as let-7b and miR-1266, which leads to upregulation of STAT3 signaling, promoting cell proliferation and migration. Knockdown of HOST2 suppresses tumor growth in vitro and in vivo. HOST2 is currently considered a promising biomarker and potential therapeutic target for certain cancers.

02

Mechanism of action

Acts as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA), decoying tumor suppressor microRNAs (let-7b and miR-1266) to upregulate the oncogenic STAT3 signaling pathway

05

Safety considerations

Oncogenic role implies therapeutic targeting risk: potential off-target effects and safety in normal tissue when considering as a drug target
