Target intelligence / Profile preview
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a non-enveloped, double-stranded, circular DNA virus that infects basal epithelial cells. Infection can lead to warts or, in the case of persistent infection with high-risk types, various cancers, including cervical, anal, penile, vulvar, vaginal, and oropharyngeal cancers. Vaccines are available to prevent infection by major oncogenic strains.
HPV vaccines stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies that neutralize HPV, preventing infection of cells.
