Overview
The human papillomavirus (HPV) E7 protein is a viral oncoprotein expressed by high-risk HPV types. It disrupts normal cellular processes, promoting uncontrolled cell proliferation and genomic instability, and is critical for the development of HPV-associated cancers. E7 primarily functions by binding to and degrading the retinoblastoma tumor suppressor protein (pRb), releasing E2F transcription factors and driving cells into S-phase. It also inhibits apoptosis, modulates immune responses, and collaborates with the HPV E6 oncoprotein to transform host epithelial cells.
