Target intelligence / Profile preview
The HPV18 major capsid protein L1 is essential both structurally—forming a robust protective shell around viral DNA—and functionally—mediating host cell attachment/entry. Its ability to form VLPs has enabled effective vaccine development against oncogenic HPVs like type 18 through induction of strong neutralizing antibody responses.
Vaccines containing L1 VLPs induce neutralizing antibodies that prevent HPV infection by blocking viral attachment and entry into host cells.
