Target intelligence / Profile preview
The Human papillomavirus (HPV) L1 protein is the major capsid protein of HPV, responsible for forming the outer shell of the virus. It self-assembles into virus-like particles (VLPs) that are highly immunogenic and form the basis for current HPV vaccines. L1 encapsulates viral DNA and mediates cell attachment. Recombinant L1 VLPs elicit strong B-cell responses, protecting against HPV infection.
