Human Papillomavirus Type 16 E7 Oncoprotein (HPV16 E7)

Target
HPV16 E7
Molecular classification
Oncoprotein, Viral protein
01

Overview

The E7 oncoprotein is an early gene product of human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16), a high-risk HPV type strongly associated with cervical and other anogenital cancers. E7, along with the E6 protein, is considered one of the primary drivers of HPV-mediated oncogenesis. E7 plays a critical role in viral genome replication by forcing quiescent host cells to re-enter the cell cycle, stimulating progression from G1 to S phase and disrupting normal cell cycle regulation through binding and inactivation of RB family proteins. It also contributes to immune evasion and genomic instability.

Mechanism of action

Disassembly of the E2F1 transcription factor from retinoblastoma protein (RB1), interference with host histone deacetylation via HDAC1/HDAC2 inhibition, inhibition of antiviral and antiproliferative functions mediated by interferon alpha
