Target intelligence / Profile preview
The L1 protein is the major capsid protein of Human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16), which is the most oncogenic HPV genotype and a primary cause of cervical, anal, and head and neck cancers. It forms the structural shell of the virus particle (virion) and plays a critical role in viral infectivity, immune recognition, and vaccine development. L1-based VLPs are used as antigens in licensed prophylactic vaccines against oncogenic HPVs due to their ability to induce strong neutralizing antibody responses without containing infectious material.
L1-based VLPs induce neutralizing antibody responses.
