Human papillomavirus type 45 L1 protein (HPV45 L1)

Human papillomavirus type 45 (HPV45) L1 protein is the major capsid protein of the HPV45 virus, a high-risk genotype significantly associated with cervical cancer (PMID: 20843488). When expressed recombinantly, the L1 protein self-assembles into virus-like particles (VLPs) that morphologically and antigenically resemble the native virion but lack the viral genome (PMID: 11517015). These VLPs contain critical conformational epitopes that are recognized by B cell receptors and induce the production of neutralizing antibodies (PMID: 25681183). In a therapeutic and prophylactic context, HPV45 L1 VLPs serve as a primary antigenic component in the 9-valent HPV vaccine (Gardasil 9) (FDA Label). The antibodies generated against these epitopes prevent the virus from binding to and entering host epithelial cells, thereby blocking infection (PMID: 17484861). Because HPV45 is one of the most common types found in cervical cancer globally, targeting its L1 protein is essential for broad-spectrum cancer prevention (PMID: 20843488). Research into specific B cell epitopes helps in optimizing vaccine design and understanding cross-reactivity between different HPV types.
