Human papillomavirus type 6 is a low-risk genotype within the human papillomavirus family. It is a small, non-enveloped double-stranded DNA virus that infects cutaneous and mucosal epithelial cells. HPV type 6 is most commonly associated with benign conditions such as genital warts (condyloma acuminata) and recurrent respiratory papillomatosis but does not cause cancer. The viral genome encodes early proteins involved in replication and late structural proteins such as L1 and L2. Prophylactic vaccines containing recombinant L1 protein from this genotype are used to prevent infection but do not treat established disease[2][3][4].
