Human Papillomavirus Type L1 Capsid Protein (L1)

Target
L1
Molecular classification
Structural protein, Capsid protein, Viral protein
01

Overview

The L1 protein is the major capsid protein of human papillomaviruses (HPVs). It self-assembles into virus-like particles (VLPs) that form the basis for current prophylactic HPV vaccines. L1 mediates capsid assembly, genome encapsulation, and host cell attachment. It is a highly immunogenic protein that induces neutralizing antibodies, preventing HPV infection and subsequent development of cervical cancer and other malignancies.
