The human telomerase reverse transcriptase promoter (hTERT promoter) is a regulatory DNA sequence that controls the transcriptional activity of hTERT, the catalytic subunit of telomerase. It is largely inactive in normal somatic cells but becomes highly active in embryonic stem cells, germline cells, and most cancerous tissues.
