Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells (HUVEC) are primary cells derived from the endothelium of veins within the human umbilical cord (ATCC, 2023). They serve as a foundational model system in biomedical research for studying vascular biology, including angiogenesis, oxidative stress, and inflammatory responses (PubMed, PMC3135221). Although HUVECs are frequently used to screen drug candidates and investigate molecular pathways, they represent a complex cellular system rather than a single molecular target or receptor (Thermo Fisher Scientific, 2024).
