Huntingtin associated protein 1 (HAP1)

Target
HAP1
Molecular classification
Adaptor protein, Intracellular trafficking protein
01

Overview

Huntingtin-associated protein 1 (HAP1) is a neuronal protein involved primarily in intracellular vesicular trafficking but also participates broadly in signal transduction pathways that maintain synaptic function/neural health. Its dysfunction may underlie selective vulnerability seen in neurodegenerative disorders like Huntington’s disease. It acts as an adaptor linking vesicles/organelle cargoes to transport machinery and regulates endocytosis, recycling, stability, and degradation prevention for several membrane receptors. Through interactions with transcription factors and kinases it influences gene expression pathways relevant for neuronal differentiation/survival.
