**Hyaluronan-binding protein 2 (HABP2)** is an extracellular serine protease of the peptidase S1 family, secreted predominantly by hepatocytes, which is proteolytically processed into a mature heterodimer. It binds hyaluronic acid and plays a central role in the regulation of hemostasis, vascular integrity, and fibrinolysis. HABP2 activates inactive pro-urokinase to urokinase and coagulation Factor VII, thus influencing the coagulation cascade and vascular remodeling. Additionally, it exerts tumor-suppressive functions in specific tissues, such as the thyroid. Genetic variants in HABP2 are associated with susceptibility to venous thromboembolism and nonmedullary thyroid cancer. Its enzymatic activity is modulated by hyaluronan fragments and extracellular nucleic acids, linking inflammation and tissue injury to hemostatic regulation[1][2][3][4][5].
