Hyaluronic acid matrix augmentation is a medical technique involving the injection or implantation of hyaluronic acid (HA) matrices—formulations of cross-linked or particulate HA—often for the purpose of restoring lost tissue volume, augmenting soft tissues, or supporting tissue regeneration. These matrices can be used in dermatology for facial volume correction, aesthetic enhancement, or management of lipoatrophy, and in orthopedics as scaffolds for cartilage repair. HA matrices act as a biocompatible, hydrophilic scaffold, promoting cell proliferation, migration, and tissue integration[5][7][3][8][9]. Their effects are largely physical (volume augmentation and support), but HA’s biological properties—such as modulating inflammation and promoting wound healing—also contribute to tissue regeneration. While generally considered safe, complications primarily relate to injection technique, product properties, or patient-specific responses.
