Hyaluronic acid (HA) synthesis is the process of producing the linear glycosaminoglycan HA, a major component of the extracellular matrix. It involves the coordinated action of multiple enzymes, primarily hyaluronan synthases (HAS1, HAS2, HAS3), which polymerize UDP-glucuronic acid (UDP-GlcUA) and UDP-N-acetylglucosamine (UDP-GlcNAc) into HA.
