Hydroxyapatite is the naturally occurring crystalline form of calcium phosphate that constitutes the primary mineral component of bone and dental enamel. Its chemical formula is Ca₁₀(PO₄)₆(OH)₂. Amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) is a non-crystalline precursor phase to hydroxyapatite, involved in biomineralization, structural assembly of bone and tooth enamel, and osteogenic processes. ACP can transform into hydroxyapatite with the help of biological additives, facilitating the formation of highly ordered mineralized tissues.
