Hydroxyapatite (HAP), with the chemical formula Ca₁₀(PO₄)₆(OH)₂, is a naturally occurring mineral form of calcium apatite. It is the principal inorganic component of bone and dental enamel. The dissolution of hydroxyapatite crystals is a key process in physiological and pathological conditions, such as bone remodeling, dental caries, and certain tumor microenvironments. Targeting HAP dissolution is relevant in dental health (caries prevention), bone diseases (osteoporosis), and cancer therapy (targeting ectopic tumor-associated HAP).
