Hydroxycitric acid (HCA) is a naturally occurring organic compound found in the rinds of fruits from the Garcinia species. It is known for its potential effects on weight management and metabolism by inhibiting ATP citrate lyase, an enzyme involved in fatty acid synthesis. While animal studies suggest benefits, human clinical trials have yielded mixed results regarding efficacy for weight loss and other metabolic effects.
Inhibits ATP citrate lyase, reducing the availability of acetyl-CoA needed for fatty acid and cholesterol biosynthesis. May also inhibit pancreatic alpha-amylase and intestinal alpha-glucosidase.
