Its substrate specificity includes L-fucose as the preferred substrate, with lower catalytic efficiency for D-arabinose and L-galactose[5]. The enzyme may play additional metabolic roles involving steroid, fatty acid, and prostaglandin metabolism, but its physiological functions—especially in the context of L-fucose degradation—remain incompletely understood[1][3].
