Overview

Hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated channel 3 (HCN3) is a member of the HCN channel family that serves as a nonselective voltage-gated cation channel permeable to sodium and potassium ions, with a preference for potassium ions. It is activated by membrane hyperpolarization and regulated by cyclic nucleotides such as cAMP. HCN3 is expressed in both heart and brain tissues, where it contributes to the generation of rhythmic activity (pacemaker currents) and the regulation of neuronal and cardiac excitability. Dysregulation of HCN channels can play roles in cardiac arrhythmias and certain neurological diseases[1][2][4][5].
