HCN4 is a non-selective cation channel crucial for generating the "funny current" (I_f) in the heart's sinoatrial node, regulating heart rate. It is also expressed in neurons, influencing excitability and plasticity. Mutations in HCN4 are associated with cardiac arrhythmias such as sick sinus syndrome and Brugada syndrome. The channel is regulated by voltage and cyclic nucleotides.
