Overview

Hyperthermia is a condition of abnormally high core body temperature due to failed thermoregulation, typically from exogenous heat exposure and/or excessive endogenous heat production, distinct from fever in which the hypothalamic set point is elevated; it spans heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke and requires rapid cooling and supportive care in severe cases

Mechanism of action

null (for targeting “hyperthermia” as a molecule/receptor). For malignant hyperthermia specifically, pathogenic gain-of-function variants in RYR1 lead to excessive Ca2+ release in skeletal muscle when exposed to triggering anesthetics, causing a hypermetabolic crisis
