Hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase 1 pseudogene 1 (HPRT1P1)

Target

Overview

Hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase 1 pseudogene 1 (HPRT1P1) is an **intronless processed pseudogene** of the functional hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase 1 (HPRT1) gene. It is mapped among several HPRT1 pseudogenes to various chromosomes and, unlike the functional gene, does not code for a functional transferase protein or play a known biological or disease role. Pseudogenes like HPRT1P1 do not produce active proteins and are not considered therapeutic targets[1][3][4]. \nHPRT1P1 is sometimes confused with HPRT1, which encodes a transferase enzyme essential for purine salvage and associated with Lesch-Nyhan syndrome and gout when mutated[2][5], but HPRT1P1 itself has no known function, therapeutic relevance, or drug interactions.
