Overview

Hypoxic tissue refers to regions within the body where oxygen levels are abnormally low, resulting in insufficient oxygen supply to meet cellular metabolic demands. This state triggers a range of adaptive and pathological responses, primarily mediated by hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs). Persistent or severe tissue hypoxia contributes to various pathologies including ischemic injury, tumor progression, and inflammatory diseases.
