The inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase subunit alpha (IKKα) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that plays a central role in the regulation of the NF-κB signaling pathway. This pathway is crucial for immune response, inflammation, cell survival, and development. IKKα forms part of the IκB kinase (IKK) complex along with IKKβ and NEMO. It is essential for activating NF-κB by phosphorylating IκBs. Dysregulation or mutation affecting IKKα contributes to chronic inflammation and cancer development. As such, IKKα is considered an attractive target for pharmacological intervention against inflammatory diseases and cancers.
