ICA1 antisense RNA 1 (ICA1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene found at the ICA1 locus, transcribed from the antisense strand. As an antisense RNA, its main role is to regulate gene expression, usually by hybridizing to complementary mRNA to block its translation or mediate degradation. ICA1-AS1 belongs to the class of antisense lncRNAs, which typically modulate their sense gene’s expression at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional levels[1][3][7]. There is not yet direct evidence that ICA1-AS1 serves as a therapeutic target, and it is not a protein-coding gene. Current knowledge of ICA1-AS1 is similar to other antisense lncRNAs, which can regulate gene expression epigenetically or by RNA-RNA interactions. No direct disease associations or drug interactions are documented, but lncRNAs as a class are increasingly implicated in diverse diseases, particularly cancer[1][2][7].
