Overview

ICAM4 antisense RNA 1 (ICAM4-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene belonging to the class of non-coding RNAs, meaning it is transcribed as RNA but not translated into a protein[1][2][3][5][7][9]. ICAM4-AS1 has been described under several aliases, including LncRNA-ECM and ICR, and is annotated in recognized databases such as HGNC (ID: 55990) and Ensembl (ENSG00000267607)[1][2][5][7][9]. Functionally, ICAM4-AS1 and similar lncRNAs are implicated in the regulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) gene expression, particularly within the context of heart disease, where altered lncRNA expression is associated with fibrosis and modulation of ECM synthesis[6]. Disease associations for ICAM4-AS1 include atherosclerosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and possibly other complex pathologies involving ECM remodeling[1][6]. There is currently no evidence that ICAM4-AS1 itself is a direct therapeutic target or that any drugs specifically interact with it. Its biological importance appears to stem from its regulatory roles in transcriptional networks relevant to ECM dynamics and fibrosis, rather than as a classical druggable node such as a receptor or enzyme.
