Overview

IER5L antisense RNA 1 (IER5L-AS1) is a non-coding RNA molecule transcribed from the DNA strand opposite to that of the IER5L gene. It is classified as a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) and annotated with RefSeq accession NR_187590.1[1]. There is currently no direct evidence for IER5L-AS1 being a therapeutic target, nor are there reports associating it specifically with disease processes or drug interactions. By analogy with other antisense lncRNAs, IER5L-AS1 may potentially interact with or regulate the expression of the IER5L gene, but its specific biological function has not been characterized in the published literature[1][3]. IER5L-AS1 should be distinguished from IER5L (immediate early response 5 like), a protein-coding gene with known roles in cancer biology and as a prognostic biomarker in non-small cell lung cancer and other malignancies[2][4]. Interpretation note: IER5L-AS1 is an antisense lncRNA, not the protein-coding gene IER5L itself. IER5L (not IER5L-AS1) is described in the literature as a biomarker in cancer and has characterized biological functions; no such data exist for the antisense RNA, and it is not currently a drug target.

Biological functions

Unknown (specific function for IER5L-AS1 not described in available data; by analogy to similar antisense lncRNAs, may regulate expression or stability of the sense gene IER5L mRNA)
03

Disease associations

Unknown (no literature directly implicating IER5L-AS1 in disease; note that IER5L, the protein-coding gene, is implicated in cancer, but not its antisense RNA)
