IFITM3P1 refers to a pseudogene related to the interferon-induced transmembrane protein 3 (IFITM3) gene family. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are non-functional; they do not encode active, functional proteins. While IFITM3 itself is a well-characterized antiviral protein involved in inhibiting the entry and replication of many viruses[1][2][3][4][6], the pseudogene IFITM3P1 does not share these properties, is not considered a functional protein, nor is it a recognized therapeutic target. There is no evidence for disease associations, drug interactions, or clinical biomarker roles for IFITM3P1. Most research and clinical interest is focused on the functional IFITM3 gene, not its pseudogenes.
