IFITM3 pseudogene 7 (IFITM3P7) is one of several IFITM3-related pseudogenes present in the human genome. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to known genes but typically non-functional due to mutations that prevent protein-coding. While some IFITM pseudogenes, such as IFITM4P, may regulate their parental genes via RNA-based mechanisms, there is no current published evidence for a functional role of IFITM3P7. IFITM3P7 does not encode the IFITM3 protein, which is a well-studied antiviral protein involved in restricting virus entry into cells[3]. No direct biological, therapeutic, or pathological functions have been assigned to IFITM3P7. There is no evidence that IFITM3P7, specifically, serves as a therapeutic target, protein, drug target, or biomarker. The listing of IFITM3P7 as a target is most likely incorrect or based on a misunderstanding with IFITM3, which is a bona fide protein-coding gene with well-established roles in antiviral immunity[3][5]. IFITM3P7 is a non-functional pseudogene and should not be considered a therapeutic target. It is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or otherwise druggable entity. Its listing as a target is incorrect, and it serves only as a genomic reference for gene duplication and evolutionary studies[3].
