IFITM3 pseudogene 9 (IFITM3P9)

Target
IFITM3P9
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene), Long non-coding RNA (possible[5])
01

Overview

IFITM3 pseudogene 9 is a human pseudogene derived from the interferon-induced transmembrane protein 3 (IFITM3) gene[5]. Unlike the functional IFITM3 gene, which encodes a well-characterized broad-spectrum antiviral protein, IFITM3P9 is a non-protein-coding locus with no confirmed translation product. Recent gene expression studies have observed that some IFITM3-related pseudogenes—including IFITM3P9—may be involved in the regulation of cellular antiviral responses, potentially through long non-coding RNA mechanisms, but direct evidence of function is lacking[5]. IFITM3P9 has been identified in interferon-stimulated gene signatures in single-cell immune profiling from viral infection patients, suggesting its transcription may be induced during infection; however, no direct biological, pathological, or therapeutic relevance has been established[5].
