Overview

IFNG antisense RNA 1 (IFNG-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA located on chromosome 12q15, transcribed from the strand opposite to IFNG. It acts as a positive regulator of the interferon gamma gene (IFN-γ), primarily within T helper 1 (Th1) and natural killer (NK) cells, and promotes IFN-γ transcription through epigenetic mechanisms involving chromatin remodeling and histone modification. IFNG-AS1 expression is regulated by the transcription factors T-bet and Stat4. Aberrant IFNG-AS1 expression is linked to multiple autoimmune and infectious diseases and may function both as a biomarker and a potential therapeutic target for conditions driven by Th1/IFN-γ-mediated immune responses[1][2][3].
