The Ig lambda-1 chain V region pseudogene (ENSG00000236118) is a genetic element located in the immunoglobulin lambda light-chain locus. Pseudogenes such as this one contain sequence homology to functional variable (V) region genes of antibody light chains but have frameshift mutations, premature stop codons, or other defects that prevent them from producing a functional protein. This particular pseudogene, psi V lambda 1, is found upstream of a functional lambda gene in the human genome and serves as evidence of the gene duplication and diversification events that shaped the immunoglobulin locus. It does not produce protein, does not participate in antigen recognition, and has no recognized function, involvement in disease, or pharmacological relevance.
