The Ig lambda chain V-11 pseudogene is a nonfunctional genomic sequence with high similarity to immunoglobulin lambda light chain (variable region) genes, specifically the V-11 subgroup. Pseudogenes like this arise typically by gene duplication or sequence disruption and have lost their ability to encode functional proteins due to disabling mutations such as frameshifts and stop codons[1][6][7]. Although immunoglobulin variable region genes are essential for immune recognition, pseudogenes such as V-11 serve no active role in immunity. They may be transcribed at low levels, but their transcripts are not known to have regulatory function or to serve as clinical biomarkers or drug targets[1][5]. Pseudogenes are useful for evolutionary studies and for understanding the diversity and history of the immunoglobulin gene loci[6].
