IGSF22 antisense RNA 1 (IGSF22-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand opposite the IGSF22 gene locus. It does not encode a protein and its molecular and cellular functions are presently unclear. Like other lncRNAs in the antisense class, it may play a role in regulating the expression of neighboring or overlapping genes through mechanisms such as modulation of chromatin structure, transcriptional interference, or RNA stability, but no experimental evidence for such functions has yet been reported for IGSF22-AS1 itself. No reports identify it as a direct therapeutic target, disease biomarker, or indicate any prominent role in disease biology.
