Overview
IKZF2, also known as Helios, is a transcription factor belonging to the Ikaros family of zinc-finger proteins. It plays a critical role in hematopoietic development, particularly in lymphocyte differentiation and function, and regulates immune responses by controlling effector functions of regulatory T cells. While it functions as a tumor suppressor in some leukemias, it can contribute to leukemogenesis in specific genetic contexts like MLL-rearranged leukemia. Mutations or dysregulation can result in primary immunodeficiency diseases and aberrant antibody responses.
