Overview

IKAROS family zinc finger 4 (IKZF4), also known as Eos, is a member of the Ikaros family of zinc finger transcription factors, characterized by multiple C2H2-type zinc finger domains[4][9][6]. IKZF4 is predominantly expressed in immune cells, especially lymphocytes, and is active in the development and regulation of hematopoietic and immune cell lineages, including T cell differentiation[3][4]. Additionally, IKZF4 is involved in the developing nervous system, where it regulates temporal cell fate specification in retinal progenitors and is essential for both cone photoreceptor and Müller glia production via modulation of genes like Pou2f2 and Notch pathway effectors[2]. IKZF4 acts as a DNA-binding transcription factor, binding to GGAA-containing motifs in target gene regulatory regions[1][2]. Dysregulation of Ikaros family members has been implicated in cancer and immune disorders, but IKZF4 is not currently a direct pharmaceutical target in clinical practice[3][7][8][9].
