Ikaros family zinc finger protein 5 (IKZF5, Pegasus) is a transcriptional repressor and DNA-binding zinc finger protein that plays a regulatory role in gene expression, particularly through binding to the consensus DNA sequence 5'GNNTGTNG-3'. It is involved in megakaryocyte differentiation and implicated in lymphoid cell development, underscoring its importance in hematopoiesis and immune regulation. IKZF5 interacts with chromatin remodeling complexes and other transcriptional machinery to modulate target gene transcription. Defects or mutations in IKZF5 have been associated with thrombocytopenia and may contribute to disorders involving immune cell dysregulation[1][2][5].
