Overview

IKBKB divergent transcript (IKBKB-DT) is a human long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), also catalogued as RP11-231D20.2, ALAL-1, IKBKBAS, and “amplified lncRNA associated with lung cancer-1.” It is located antisense to the IKBKB gene, but does not code for a protein. Recent studies have identified IKBKB-DT (ALAL-1) as being frequently amplified in certain lung cancers, where it acts as a regulator of cancer immune evasion. This lncRNA is thus considered important in lung tumor biology, especially in the context of how cancers avoid host immune surveillance[1][4]. As a non-protein-coding lncRNA, IKBKB-DT functions through gene expression modulation rather than direct biochemical activity, setting it apart from traditional therapeutic targets such as enzymes or receptors. IKBKB-DT is not an enzyme, receptor, transporter, or classical therapeutic target type, but an lncRNA[4]. It is mainly discussed as a regulatory RNA with disease associations but is not currently a direct drug target; no drugs, mechanisms of action, or established safety concerns relating to direct pharmacological targeting are reported in the literature[1][4].
