Overview

IMG-1 is a novel, naturally occurring 29-amino acid polypeptide that is a fragment of the human Ribosomal Protein S2 (RPS2). Originally identified in a specific type of Vietnamese tea and later found to be nearly identical to a sequence in human RPS2, IMG-1 acts as a potent regenerative and metabolic regulator. It functions by crossing cell membranes through transcytosis and binding to nuclear receptors, thereby activating transcription factors that drive systemic tissue repair and cellular rejuvenation. Additionally, IMG-1 has been shown to mobilize CD133+ progenitor cells and promote the growth and migration of pancreatic islet cells, making it a promising candidate for treating Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. In metabolic health, it normalizes blood glucose by inhibiting glucagon production and reducing insulin resistance. Currently, IMG-1 is being developed by Imagine Pharma for therapeutic applications and is available as a key ingredient in dietary supplements like Progenalen for metabolic and immune support.

Mechanism of action

IMG-1 binds to the CD133 receptor on progenitor cells to mobilize them for tissue repair; it also enters cells via transcytosis to bind nuclear receptors and activate regenerative transcription factors. In the pancreas, it inhibits glucagon production and promotes the growth and migration of insulin-producing islet cells.
