The imidazoline2 binding site (I2BS), also known as the imidazoline I₂ receptor, refers to a group of non-adrenergic binding sites in the brain and peripheral tissues that are distinct from classical adrenergic receptors. These sites were originally identified due to their high affinity for certain radiolabeled ligands such as [³H]-idazoxan and [³H]-2-BFI. The molecular identity of I2BS remains elusive; evidence suggests that multiple proteins may constitute these binding sites. I2BS are predominantly expressed in reactive astrocytes and are implicated in various neurological disorders.
