Immediate dentin sealing (IDS) is a clinical procedure in restorative dentistry involving the application of a dentin bonding agent to freshly prepared dentin—typically immediately after tooth preparation and prior to impression-taking for indirect restorations such as inlays, onlays, or crowns. The purpose is to seal dentinal tubules, protecting the pulp from bacterial microleakage, reducing postoperative sensitivity, enhancing resin bond strength, and improving the overall longevity of dental restorations. Despite its biological relevance in dental treatment, IDS is not a molecular drug target, but a procedural technique leveraging dental adhesives that polymerize to form a protective hybrid layer on the tooth surface.
