Target intelligence / Profile preview
The Immediate Early 1 (IE1) protein of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is one of the first viral proteins expressed upon infection or reactivation. It acts as a transcriptional regulator, initiating viral gene expression and modulating host immune responses, including inhibiting apoptosis and modifying PML nuclear bodies. IE1 is a key target for diagnostic assays and T-cell response studies, particularly in immunocompromised patients. Detection of IE1-specific immune responses indicates active CMV replication.
