Overview

Immediate early response 2 protein (IER2) is a DNA-binding transcription factor implicated in the early cellular response to diverse external stimuli. It regulates transcription by RNA polymerase II and is involved in the modulation of cell motility, cell-matrix adhesion, actin cytoskeleton rearrangement, and angiogenesis. IER2 also plays a role in neuronal differentiation and is involved in tumor progression and metastasis, notably in colorectal and hepatic cancers. It functions via JNK signaling and acts as a potential biomarker in several malignancies, including acute myeloid leukemia, colorectal adenocarcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, and melanoma.
