Overview

Immune cells and tissues jointly describe the collection of specialized cell types (such as lymphocytes, neutrophils, macrophages, dendritic cells, and natural killer cells) and anatomical structures (such as bone marrow, thymus, lymph nodes, spleen, and mucosal-associated lymphoid tissue) that work together to identify, respond to, and eliminate pathogens and transformed cells[2][4][6][7]. Cellular immunity is conferred by white blood cells originating from hematopoietic stem cells, which differentiate into myeloid or lymphoid lineages giving rise to cells that mediate innate and adaptive immunity[2][7]. Tissues such as the thymus and bone marrow serve as primary sites for immune cell development and education, while secondary lymphoid tissues (e.g., lymph nodes, spleen) facilitate antigen recognition and immune activation[6][8]. The concept of "immune cells and tissues" is a functional grouping, not a discrete therapeutic target, and should not be considered a canonical molecular entity for drug targeting purposes.
